What are the SDLT changes coming on March 31, 2025?
Here are the main changes on the Stamp Duty Land Tax happening on the 31st of March 2025:
- The nil rate threshold, currently at £250,000, will revert to £125,000.
- For first-time buyers, the nil rate threshold of £425,000 will drop to £300,000.
- The maximum purchase price for claiming First-Time Buyers Relief will be reduced from £625,000 to £500,000.
The SDLT rates on a standard residential purchase of a freehold property will be as follow:
- 0% up to £125,000
- 2% above £125,000 and up to £250,000
- 5% above £250,000 and up to £925,000
- 10% above £925,000 and up to £1,500,000
- 12% above £1,500,000
